Tammy Duckworth
Illinois

Senator since 2017

2022 midterms

We can't let obstructionists block us from getting things done in the Senate and delivering results for the American people. If that takes reforming the filibuster, I'm for that. If it takes getting rid of the filibuster, I'm for that too.

Tammy Duckworth
Voting Record

Duckworth’s primary concerns pertain to civil rights, protections for minorities, veterans and seniors, and the environment. Duckworth spent 23 years in reserve forces, and lost both her legs in Iraq, and thus has an intimate understanding of the veteran experience and the care needed for veterans upon their return home from war. She is committed to making sure that care is thorough and all-encompassing. Additionally, as the senior Democrat on the Senate Committee on Fisheries, Water and Wildlife, Duckworth is dedicated to protecting public health through environmental preservation and clean water infrastructure.

Duckworth has voted to block emergency funds to erect President Trump’s border wall, and also to convict him of abuse of office and contempt of Congress. She has also voted against banning abortion after 20 weeks, and has voted for federal aid to ease the burden of coronavirus.

State

With over 12 million people in residence, Illinois has the sixth largest population of all the American states. The economic, social, and cultural makeup of the state is thoroughly diverse, with a surplus of natural resources to the south (oil, coal, and timber), a more industrialized north, and an active port via Chicago, with throughways to international trading. Chicago is the country’s third most populous city, and is highly segregated down racial lines. Agriculture in the state is hugely productive and profitable, especially in the central part of Illinois. The main crops are corn, soybeans, dairy products, and cattle. Illinois has a culturally rich community as one of the most notable destinations for 20th-century architecture in the United States. The state boasts numerous museums, usually focused on science and industrial advancement. Illinois is usually a Democratic state and its current sitting governor is Jay Robert “J. B.” Pritzker, also a Democrat.
